How this rate is calculated

We use the European Central Bank's daily reference rates, published around 16:00 Frankfurt time on business days. The ECB quotes every currency against the euro, so the Australian Dollar to New Zealand Dollar rate is our own calculation: one euro rate divided by the other. On weekends and holidays the latest published rate applies.

Reference rate for information only. Banks and money changers add a spread and fees, so the rate you get will differ. Do not use for transactions.

How to read

The rate reads one-to-many

The big number is what 1 AUD buys: 1.2339 NZD. The other way round, 1 NZD is 0.8104 AUD. Multiply to go from AUD to NZD, divide to come back.

Where it comes from

Rate of October 15, 2026

Source: Banco Central Europeu. On days with no publication (weekends and holidays) this same rate stands until the next one is released.

Careful

This is not your dealing price

Banks and money changers add spread and fees. At a 3% spread, 100 AUD would get 119.69 NZD instead of 123.39 NZD. This page is information, not financial advice.

What to do

Compare the final amount

Ask for the final amount in NZD with every fee included and divide it by the AUD amount: that is your effective rate. Compare it with 1.2339 to see the cost.

AUD and NZD: what today's rate means

How much is 100 AUD in NZD today?

At the rate published on October 15, 2026, 1 Australian Dollar is worth 1.2339 NZD. So 10 AUD comes to 12.3394 NZD, 100 AUD to 123.39 NZD and 1,000 AUD to 1,233.94 NZD. The arithmetic never changes: multiply the AUD amount by 1.2339.

The other way round, 1 New Zealand Dollar is worth 0.8104 AUD: the Australian Dollar is the stronger currency in this pair, so a AUD amount always turns into a bigger number in NZD. To go from NZD to AUD, divide by 1.2339 — or multiply by 0.8104, which is the same thing.

How the AUD to NZD reference rate is set

The 1.2339 figure comes from the European Central Bank's daily reference rates, published around 16:00 Frankfurt time on business days. The ECB quotes everything against the euro, so the AUD to NZD rate for October 15, 2026 is one euro rate divided by the other — our calculation, not a number the ECB publishes.

A reference rate is a snapshot of the market at one point in the day, built for comparison and accounting. No new rate is published on Saturdays, Sundays or holidays, so the same 1.2339 can sit here for three days in a row.

Why your bank will not give you 1.2339 per AUD

Between the reference rate and the counter come the provider's spread, transfer or card fees and, depending on the country, taxes. With a 3% spread, 100 AUD would get you 119.69 NZD instead of 123.39 NZD — 3.7018 NZD of margin.

The gap scales with the amount: on the same 3% example, 1,000 AUD loses 37.0181 NZD on the way. Before you commit, ask for the final amount in NZD including every fee and compare it with 1.2339: the distance between the two is the real cost.

What this AUD to NZD rate is not for

Do not use 1.2339 to settle a transaction or to guess tomorrow's rate: it is one day's reference rate, not a dealing price and not a forecast. Nothing on this page is financial advice.

Glossary

Reference rate

A rate published by an authority or a data provider as a snapshot of the market at one point in the day. It is meant for comparison, accounting and information. It is not an offer: nobody has to trade at it.

Reference rate

Cross rate

A rate between two currencies worked out through a third one. The European Central Bank quotes everything against the euro, so a rate between two non-euro currencies is one euro rate divided by the other.

Cross rate

Inverse rate

The same pair read the other way round: if one unit of the first currency buys X of the second, the inverse rate is 1 divided by X. It is the number you need when converting in the opposite direction.

Inverse rate

Currency pair

The two currencies in a quote, in reading order. In USD/INR the dollar is the base currency and the rupee is the quote currency, so the number answers "how many rupees to one dollar".

Currency pair

Base and quote currency

The base currency is the one worth 1 unit; the quote currency is the one the price is expressed in. Swapping them flips the number, and that is the most common mistake in currency conversion.

Base and quote currency

Spread

The gap between the price at which a provider sells a currency and the price at which it buys. It is the provider margin, and it accounts for most of the distance between a reference rate and what you actually pay.

Spread

FX business day

A day on which the reference market is open. On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays there is no new rate: the last published one stands, and that is the one shown here.

FX business day

Mid-market rate

The midpoint between the buying and the selling price at a given moment. Reference rates sit close to it, which is why they look better than any rate you are actually offered.

Mid-market rate

Bid and ask

The bid is the price at which a provider buys a currency from you; the ask is the price at which it sells to you. Travellers always pay the ask.
