Frequently asked questions about the site

Who writes this site?

One person, named with an email address on the contact page. The figures come from official bodies, by API or publication, and the surrounding text is written here, page by page, from each source documentation — it is not bulk-generated text left unreviewed.

Is this financial advice?

No, and it must not be read as such. We are not accountants, lawyers or financial advisers. We show the official figure, say who publishes it and send you to the body where you can check it. The decision, and the responsibility for it, stay yours.

Can I use the take-home pay calculator for my own payslip?

Use it to see how the brackets work and the order of magnitude. It applies the published tables for that year to an example amount and ignores dependants, pension contributions, health plans, allowances and state or provincial differences — so your payslip will differ. The calculation that counts is your employer’s.

Why do some pages show no figure?

Because the official source did not answer during that collection, or does not cover that case. When that happens the page says so plainly, stays online, is not indexed by Google and carries no ads. A short true page beats an invented number.

Where do the photos come from?

From Wikimedia Commons, under a free licence, with the author and the licence printed under each photo. We download them and serve them from our own server. No photo appears on two pages, and a subject with no freely licensed photo simply has none.

How often are the figures updated?

It depends on the source, and every page states the date of the reading it is showing. Exchange and policy rates change on business days; inflation and unemployment monthly; population and regional output once a year. Benefit tables change when the rule changes.

How is the site funded?

By advertising. Ads do not influence which series get a page or what the text says, and no bank, broker or exchange pays for prominence. We accept no paid links and no sponsored posts.

I found a mistake. What now?

Write in through the contact page with the page and the number. Send the link to the official source with the right value and the correction ships the same day.
